Drs. Shaver and Hammen practice also involves the diagnosis and treatment of oral and peri-oral lesions.  Their training included both general and oral pathology although their primary focus is on oral and facial pathology.  Most patients will be referred by their general dentist for evaluation, however this is not always the case.  If you have an oral lesion, swelling, non healing ulceration, or unexplained facial numbness, we will be happy to examine you.  Your examination will likely consist of a thorough head and neck examination, in addition to X-rays if needed.  In some cases, a biopsy may be warranted to secure a definitive diagnosis.  Most procedures can be completed in the office setting.  Although most lesions are not cancerous, it is imperative to have any alterations in the oral cavity thoroughly examined.  Early detection and diagnosis is a key factor in your prognosis and your return to normal form and function.
